These headphones play in one ear only on my iPod touch. I sent them back.
My Score: 1 / 5 Stars
i like them, i use them with my samsung omnia at the gym to listen to my music and they sound great. the bad was that they hurt my head for a while but after a break in periond they fit just fine. not so with the samsung sbh700 Samsung SBH700 Bluetooth Stereo Headset i bought, they were too small and i never was able to keep them in my ears but one size does fit all as is the case with samsung products. i am getting another pair of the 500’s to act as a backup for many hours of listening.
My Score: 4 / 5 Stars
I got these in the mail not to long ago, there perfect. Not poor quaility, good sound, and mic. I dont use it for workingout or with my cell phone. I use it with my laptop so it works perfect for what I wanted it to do. I am thinking about linking my ps3 so I will have another headset. All in all it gets the job done.
My Score: 4 / 5 Stars
I own the Samsung SBH500 and am quite happy with the sound quality for music playback. The quality easily rivals or exceeds basic $20 wired headphones I’ve used so I consider anything about 30 dollars for this BT headset to be a good deal.
Comfort-wise these things hurt my ears the first second I put them on. I’ve since learned where to position them for my ears so I can now wear them for extended periods. I can easily see, though, how they may -never- fit comfortably for certain ear shapes/sizes — make sure you purchase from a dealer with a good return policy.
Unfortunately the SBH500 is not without a few more serious faults. The product has had a *very* large number of user complaints regarding the plastic headset easily breaking and Samsung refusing to replace under warranty. These users say Samsung claims only electronic faults are covered under warranty, not physical breaks. I’ve been extra-careful with my set because of these reports. A good number of the “fragile plastic” complaints have been from people who’ve claimed to only use the SBH500 as desk headphones — i.e., very mild use.
Another design fault (in my opinion) is the built-in battery. If you manage to not break the headset you can expect to eventually be forced to retire the unit due to a worn-out non-replaceable battery. Perhaps the unit is inexpensive enough that the eventual cost of a battery replacement does not make sense. I just dislike the idea that some electronics are to be discarded by design even if otherwise operational and useful.
The SBH500 has issues with some BT devices when “multi-paired” — paired with a phone and a music device at the same time. Similar to other reports I’ve read, I cannot play music from my laptop while paired with my Nokia phone — the music is exceedingly choppy and sometimes drops out for several seconds at a time. Disabling the phone connection restores perfect music playback from the laptop. Besides experiementing with various locations for the phone in relation to the laptop, I’ve tried two different reputable bluetooth stacks (software) for the laptop’s built-in BT adapter.
Another issue for me has been the headset’s apparent lack of an auto-connect option. My other various BT earpieces all auto-connected with my phone when the earpiece was turned on but the SBH500 must be manually connected each time I turn it on (manually connected from the BT source device).
Final word:
Despite the SBH500’s faults, considering the current lack of options for inexpensive BT stereo headsets, I would buy again. I like the SBH500 for the low price, good music playback and the inclusion of playback controls on the headset. I give it only 3 out of 5 stars due to comfort issues and problems with pairing to more than one device at a time (at least for some devices).
My Score: 3 / 5 Stars
Ok…this review is going to be broken down into three sections…the good…the bad…and the ugly. But overall…they are well worth the money paid for them
FIRST OFF…THE GOOD!
Sound: The sound quality is really good on this headset…the only thing that makes them suffer whatsoever is inferior source material. The bass is excellent for headphones in this price range and separation is amazing! I’ve actually heard sounds on these that others have masked…and oh…the sound is crystal clear…no muddiness associated with most inexpensive headsets.
Ease of control: These headphones are very easy to control! There are only 6 buttons that do everything you need to accomplish. A rocker style volume control…a play pause button…a ff/skip button…a reverse ff/back button…and a phone button to answer calls and to redial last number called…all on the right ear…and an on/off switch located on the left ear. I use these exclusively with my Samsung Highlight cell and the headphones even launch the media player on the phone by holding the play/pause button for 3 seconds…releasing…then another quick click
Durability: Unlike others who wrote reviews regarding durability…I have had nothing but good luck with this unit(have had them over 2 months). I’ve even dropped them a couple of times…picked them up and carried on as though nothing happened.
Battery life: A full charge lasts about 11-12 hours of usage and when they are ready to recharge…the audio cuts out briefly at about 10 second intervals.
Range: Unlike some Bluetooth sets…this one has a range of about 30ft and has no issue with line of sight…I can put them on..leave the phone and go outside my place with no loss in signal.
Calls: Call quality is good as well and when I asked if I could be heard clearly…the answer was always yes!
THE BAD!
Pairing: Clear…concise directions would have been very handy when it came to pairing. The instructions tell you to turn the unit on…then hold the phone button until the outer band of the button lights a steady blue color. Only after taking the unit and my phone to the T-Mobile representative did I learn that you have to hold the phone button down first…and then turn the unit on!!! Once that hurdle was passed though…they easily paired up to my laptop.
Comfort: Others who complained of discomfort were not lying when it came to this headset. When I first got them…I could only wear them for about 20 mins before feeling pressure against my head. The good news is that the discomfort passes with time. I can now wear them for a few hours before having any issues!
AND NOW…THE UGLY!
Don’t expect to be winning any fashion awards with this headset. They look like a set of earmuffs on your head…but…with everything else that they have going for them…it’s hard to say that you wouldn’t wear them…especially once you hear them!!! A 4 star value all the way around
My Score: 4 / 5 Stars
